Collective Coalition Against Human Trafficking
( A broad network of 22 Organisations in Bihar to campaign against Child Abuse, Child Trafficking and Child Marriage, promoting child rights )
Title of Collaboration: Strengthening community-level structures and prosecution system for prevention of violence and abuse against children.
Bihar being one of the source states, has been facing the issue of child trafficking at both intra-state and inter-state levels. According to the 2011 census, the number of children laborers stood at around 11 lakhs, and close to 80,000 of them were from only one district – Gaya. The preferred destination is Jaipur. A city that has nearly 50,000 child laborers working in the small bangle-making factories. Law enforcement agencies and voluntary organizations working to combat child trafficking have found themselves helpless. To pin down the trafficker and the network where the trafficker is a part of, the law enforcement agencies across multiple states need to be involved. However, interstate investigations often fail because of weak coordination and a hesitancy to take up accountability.
The Sustainable Development Goals, adopted by world leaders in 2015, include a renewed global commitment to ending child labor. Specifically, target 8.7 of the Sustainable Development Goals calls on the global community to:
"Take immediate and effective measures to eradicate forced labor, end modern slavery and human trafficking and secure the prohibition and elimination of the worst forms of child labor, including recruitment and use of child soldiers, and by 2025 end child labor in all its forms."
